At Bergvliet Primary School we have an open door policy. At any time children have adults around to whom they can talk. We identify and nurture your child's talent through our happy, caring, friendly atmosphere, which often draws comments from visitors to our school.

We cater for the individual needs of our learners both in the classroom and in our extra mural programme. We aim to educate the whole child and produce well rounded children, it is not unusual to have an academically talented boy singing in the choir, playing the violin, crafting something beautiful in the art class and then scoring a goal out on the soccer field next to a pupil who excels in only one area of the curriculum.

Because of the diversity of the expertise of our staff, we are able to motivate and develop pupils who are academically gifted and talented in the areas of music - vocal and instrumental - art, technology, computers and sport. We believe that each of our learners should be able to meet the challenges that lie ahead. They must be participants in life and we therefore encourage them to excel to their full potential academically, socially, culturally and physically.

The relationship between the staff and the learners is interactive and relaxed with the correct amount of respect and self- discipline shown by both parties. Learners who have completed excellent work on projects in class, or working models during technology lessons, or exceptional artwork, are sent to the office to share with the Principal what they have done. Learners in need of praise and encouragement also visit Mrs De Beer 's office and the Foundation Phase learners are often rewarded with a "smiley face" sticker for their books. Other learners pop in during the afternoons to play a newly learned piece on the recorder or violin.
